Differentiated Treatment to Prevent Recurrence of Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Sebaceous hyperplasia is a lesion characterized by the sebaceous glands in the dermal layer becoming abnormally enlarged or proliferated.

However, typically, treatments involving laser removal of visible lesions are commonly performed.

While these methods may appear to show temporary improvement,

if the sebaceous gland itself remains, there is a possibility that the hyperplasia may recur.

We approach sebaceous hyperplasia differently.

Our goal is to reduce the likelihood of recurrence by managing the underlying internal causes along with removing the surface of the lesion.

We go beyond simply improving visible symptoms,

and aim for treatments that manage both the cause and symptoms, expecting fundamental improvement.

To achieve this goal, we use a combination of two devices.

1. Potenza Needle RF (Insulated Radiofrequency 1-Pin Needle)

It directly delivers high-frequency thermal energy to the area where sebaceous glands are located,

selectively denaturing the sebaceous glands.

By using an insulated needle, it minimizes damage to the epidermis or surrounding tissues,

allowing for precise targeting of only the sebaceous glands.

This plays a crucial role in managing the root cause of sebaceous hyperplasia.

2. Er:YAG Laser

This laser allows for precise depth control,

and is used to delicately remove raised lesions.

It causes relatively less damage to surrounding tissues, which can help reduce recovery burden and lower the chance of scarring.

If necessary, CO2 laser can be used in conjunction to manage deeper lesions as well.

This differs from an approach that simply removes the lesion.

CO2 laser-only ablation only removes the visible parts, leaving the sebaceous glands themselves, which can lead to recurrence.

Our combined treatment manages the sebaceous glands themselves and addresses surface lesions, which can help inhibit the recurrence of sebaceous hyperplasia.
