  Thicker, darker hairs often require higher fluence so heat adequately reaches the follicle.

Devices with insufficient cooling can make high power + very short pulses risky for burns:

• Short pulses deliver the same energy in less time → a heat spike that can raise epidermal temperature quickly.

• Weak cooling can’t remove heat fast enough.

As power increases, it’s safer to lengthen the pulse so heat is delivered more gradually and the epidermis can tolerate it.

GentleMax uses cryogen spray cooling, which is generally stronger than standard air cooling.
That said, at typical hair-removal fluences, non-contact cryo-air systems (e.g., Apogee cryo air) can still provide adequate cooling when used correctly. With proper cooling, coarse, deep hairs may be treated more aggressively (higher power, shorter pulse) when appropriate and safe.
